In Sudan, along the Gum Arabic belt, the Acacia tree “Senegal” has been cultivated for 300 years. Natural driver of the agroforestry, the trees are also cultivated for their Gum, making Sudan the world’s largest producer and supplier of Gum Arabic. The culture benefits around 6 million farmers over 13 States of Sudan.
AFD and the Forest National Corporation of Sudan (FNC), have been working together on a project aiming to increase the direct income of Gum Arabic farmers, in North Kordofan since 2013. 
In light of the success of this project, the European Union, FNC and AFD recently decided to extend it to three other States of Sudan.
